About the collection

Macculloch Hall Historical Museum exhibits its fine and decorative art collections throughout the historic house. Six rooms reflect how generations of the Macculloch-Miller-Post families lived in the house for almost 150 years. The mansion's center hall is a permanent gallery exploring the works of political cartoonist Thomas Nast (1840-1902) whose family home still stands across Macculloch Avenue.

MHHM’s collections reflect the interests of founder W. Parsons Todd (1877-1976). Deeply influenced by the Colonial Revival Movement beginning in the 1950s Todd interpreted Macculloch Hall as a 19th-century gentleman’s estate. He collected fine examples of porcelain, presidential material, carpets, textiles, furniture, glass, silver, paintings, and works on paper. These objects spoke to his interests in American history, the American presidency, life on the sea, and the generations of the Macculloch-Miller-Post family who occupied the house from 1810 until 1949. Todd also collected the work of American political cartoonist Thomas Nast (1840-1902). Todd grew up with Cyril Nast, Thomas Nast's youngest child.
