Part Time Contract Teaching Artist

Description

Macculloch Hall Historical Museum is seeking a dynamic and creative Teaching Artist to join our team for Summer 2026. In this role, you will lead engaging art experiences for children and young adults in our beautiful historic gardens, as part of our Make it! Grow it! Learn it! summer program. This hands-on program blends history, science, environmental awareness, and the arts, giving participants an inspiring space to explore, create, and discover.

What you’ll do:

  • Design and lead art lessons that spark creativity and encourage all students to express themselves
  • Prepare and manage art materials, including creating supply lists and sourcing unique items
  • Collaborate closely with the Curator of Education and Community Engagement to plan and refine programs
  • Set up for programs, arriving 30 minutes early, and assist with clean-up afterward
  • Facilitate sessions both onsite at Macculloch Hall and at offsite community partner locations as needed
  • Adapt activities to accommodate different learning styles and respond to participant feedback
  • Attend two planning meetings before the season and one wrap-up meeting afterward
  • Contribute to a welcoming, positive environment by working collaboratively with Museum staff and community partners

Who we’re looking for:

  • Advanced degree in Art or Art Education
  • At least five years’ professional experience teaching the arts in formal or informal learning settings
  • Passion for inspiring and engaging children and young adults
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Punctual, reliable, and flexible
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus

Perks and Compensation:

  • $150 per program; $50 per planning/wrap-up meeting
  • Flexible schedule: typically 2–4 morning programs per week, up to 13 total
