Daisy Scouts
Making Memories
Meets requirements for Girl Scout Daisy Zinni Petal Award
Enjoy a visit to Macculloch Hall Historical Museum with your special female adult. See the garden in bloom. Create a watercolor painting of the garden, remembering Zinni’s lesson of sharing, while painting. Explore the 19th century rooms at Macculloch Hall, where generations of mothers and daughters lived and cared for one another. Special arrangement dates are available. Scout Fee: $15/Adult Fee: $10. Minimum: 12 girls & adults. Fee covers entry to the museum and all materials.
Louisa’s Rose Garden
Meets Requirements for Golden Honey Bee Award from “Welcome to the Daisy Flower Garden” Girl Scout Daisy Journey
After reading A Smiling Bee and a Garden Key (Chapter 2: “Welcome to the Daisy Flower Garden” Girl Scout Daisy Journey), girls will visit the garden at Macculloch Hall Historical Museum to learn more about Louisa Macculloch (1785-1863) and her rose garden first planted in 1810. Girls will discover a treasure box of their own and be inspired to create paintings of flowers in the garden. Available late May and June. Girl Fee: $15/Adult Fee: $10. Minimum: 12 girls & adults. Celebrating Community
Meets requirements for Girl Scout Brownie Celebrating Community Badge
New Jersey is a unique state with a diverse population whose immigrants have brought a variety of ceremonies, songs, and symbols that scouts can enjoy in celebration of our great state. Come to Macculloch Hall Historical Museum to see 19th-century musical instruments and hear how music has captured the mood of the state and nation in times of sadness and joy. Scouts “scout out” symbols and learn about American symbol maker and late- 19th-century American artist and political cartoonist, Thomas Nast (1840-1902). While at the Museum, discover how Macculloch Hall went from a family home to a historic landmark, prepare for a parade, and learn how to properly fold the American flag. A 10-minute snack break is built into the program; please bring a nut-free snack for each girl. Length of Program: 2 hours. Scout Fee: $15; Adult Fee: $10. Minimum: 12 girls & adults. Fee covers entry to the museum and all materials.
Pen, Ink and Paintings
Meets requirements for Girl Scout Brownie Painting Badge
Girls begin their visit to Macculloch Hall Historical Museum with a walk through the garden for inspiration. Then, they will spend time painting “with” and from nature to create a landscape painting. Enjoy a guided tour of Macculloch Hall’s 19th-century rooms, discovering portraits and paintings throughout the house. Leaders will receive materials for a mural painting project that girls can complete at the next troop meeting. A 10-minute snack break is built into the program; please bring a nut-free snack for each girl. Available Fall and Spring. Scout Fee: $15; Adult Fee: $10. Minimum: 12 girls & adults. Yes to the Dress –19th Century Style
Meets requirements for Girl Scout Junior Playing the Past Badge
Enjoy a guided tour of Macculloch Hall Historical Museum while learning about the wedding preparations of Mary Louisa (1804-1888), George and Louisa Macculloch’s only daughter. Sketch a wedding dress and slipper shoes. Listen to music that was popular at that time while making a flower craft to take home. Write diary entries capturing the excitement of Mary Louisa’s preparations for her special day. Length of Program: 2 hours. Scout Fee: $15; Adult Fee: $10. Minimum: 12 girls & adults. It’s About Time
Meets requirements for Girl Scout Junior Product Designer Award
Will you remember to “spring forward” for Daylight Savings Time this year? Why do we adjust our clocks? Take a tour of Macculloch Hall built in 1810 to see and hear clocks dating from the 17th to 19th centuries. How did each design improve upon the last? What designs failed? Scouts can then take on the role of product designer, observing, testing, and analyzing clocks in use. “Mind power” provides the spark of innovation when girls provide their own designs to improve upon the technology of time keeping. Length of Program: 2 hours. Scout Fee: $15; Adult Fee: $10. Minimum: 12 girls & adults. Fee covers entry to the museum and all materials.
Cadette Scouts
Who Speaks For You?
Meets requirements for Helper: Girl Scout Cadette Public Speaker Award
Cadettes enjoy and recite the witty poems of Alice Duer Miller (1874-1942) which address issues of the women’s suffragette movement. Learn what Miller loved and how she shocked 1890s New York society by attending college. Examining this suffragette writer’s most popular works, “Are Women People?” and “Come Out of the Kitchen”, girls learn about the importance of body language when speaking, use props for dramatic effect, and deliver lines with expression. Scouts will also learn more about how during the 1930s and 1940s Alice Duer Miller’s works were turned into a Broadway play and Hollywood movies! Length of Program: 2 hours. Scout fee: $15; Adult fee: $10. Minimum: 8 girls & adults. Fee covers entry to the museum and all materials.

Tiger Scouts
Shape Search
Meets requirements 1 a&b and 2 a&b of Stories in Shapes
Tiger Scouts see the artwork collected by Museum founder, W. Parsons Todd (1877-1976), search for shapes in art, work with tangrams, and create an artwork to take home. Pre-registration required. $15 per scout; $10 per adult. Fee covers entry to the museum and all materials.
Ready, Set, Float Your Boat
Meets requirements 1,2,5, and 6 of Floats and Boats
Canals were the craze in the early 1800s. George Macculloch (1775-1858), the “father” of the Morris Canal, believed a canal was the answer for New Jersey’s transportation problems at the time. Learn about different types of boats while testing what materials float. Design and make a boat from recycled materials to take home. Pre-registration required. $15 per scout; $10 per adult. Fee covers entry to the museum and all materials.
Webelo Scouts
Off the Wall
Meets requirements 1, 2, 3, 4a of Art Explosion
After a tour of Macculloch Hall Historical Museum to see the art on exhibit, with special focus on Thomas Nast’s political cartoons, Webelos create original works of art, including self-portraits and cartoons, and build a portfolio to take home. Pre-registration required. $15 per scout; $10 per adult. Includes materials for requirement 3e. Fee covers entry to the museum and all materials.
Scouts BSA
We the People
Meets requirements for the Citizenship in the Nation Merit Badge
What makes a good citizen? Scouts discuss this, review the functions of the federal government, and examine early American documents in the home of former U.S. Senator Jacob Miller (1800-1862). Activities include a focus on the life and work of political cartoonist Thomas Nast (1840-1902), whose home is on the National Register of Historic Places. Pre-registration required. $25 per scout; $10 per adult. Fee covers entry to the museum and all materials.
Architecture: Past and Present
Use 19th century Macculloch Hall and Morristown’s first Historic District to meet all five requirements of the Scouts BSA Architecture Merit Badge. Activities help scouts compare building styles and trends today with those of the past as they look at Morristown’s historic neighborhood. Scouts also learn about three career options in the field of architecture. Pre-registration required. $25 per scout; $10 per adult. Fee covers entry to the museum and all materials.
