Learn about Lincoln’s famous whistle-stop train journey from Springfield, Illinois to Washington, DC in February 1861 through hands-on activities and craft.
Transportation: Travel Then and Now (Available Year-Round)
George Macculloch (1775-1858) was the key figure behind the creation of New Jersey’s Morris Canal. Find out what travel was like before the 1820s and how 19th century transportation technology changed how people and products moved in New Jersey.
Thomas Nast (Available Year-Round)
Learn how artist Thomas Nast (1840-1902) comforted and encouraged the country during the Civil War and how his illustrations addressed post-war issues. Includes an art activity.
Architecture (Available Fall/Spring)
Tour Morristown’s Historic District to learn about 19th century architectural styles. Activities compare different designs and features and while helping students develop a “building” vocabulary.
Celebrating The Secret Garden (Available Spring only)
While reading Frances Hodgson Burnett’s classic, The Secret Garden, come to Macculloch Hall for special activities related to characters and scenes in the story.
